Lada Urbanová
Lada Urbanová has been painting for more than thirty years. Born in the Wallachia region of eastern Moravia, she now lives and works just outside Prague. She came to painting through photography and formal training — studying photography and graphic art, painting at the People's Conservatory in Ostrava, and working under the academic painter Vladimír Vošáhlík.
For four years she travelled across Europe painting portraits; she taught painting at the Blackie Gallery in Liverpool and exhibited in London's Camden Town. Behind her stand close to a thousand portraits and hundreds of oils on canvas.
She paints in oil on the finest materials, most often outdoors, on the spot. Her work ranges from quiet seascapes lit from within to dreamlike, surreal scenes. "I paint what comes straight from the source," she says.
"All I ever wanted was to sleep and dream — and to paint those dreams."
